NOT ONLY WAS MARCH DEPOT A MUST FOR ALL RAIL ENTHUSIASTS, BUT THE STATION AND NORWOOD BRIDGE WERE A GREAT PLACE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY, LOOKING INTO WHITEMOOR FROM NORWOOD BRIDGE, THE POINTWORK WAS VERY COMPLEX, I CANT IMAGINE HOW THE SIGNALMAN IN WHITEMOOR JUNCTION BOX REMEMBERED THE 130 PLUS LEVERS!! AND THE STATION PLAYED HOST TO PASSENGER/PARCELS AND FREGHT TRAINS, HERE ARE 12 PICS TAKEN FROM NORWOOD BRIDGE AND MARCH STN

MARCH WAS A VERY BUSY FUELING/STABLING POINT RIGHT UP UNTIL FINAL CLOSURE OF THE DEPOT IN 1995, ITS TRUE AFTER THE LOSS OF 'SPEEDLINK' IN JULY 1991 SAW THE END OF WORKINGS OUT OF WHITEMOOR YARD (APART FROM THE SPILLERS PET FOOD TRAIN OUT OF WISBECH WHICH USED THE SINGLE LINE THROUGH WHITEMOOR JUNCTION) BUT THE DEPOT CARRIED ON RIGHT TILL THE END, THERE WAS TALK OF A DEPOT PLAQUE FOR MARCH BASED ENGINES BASED ON A RUNNING HARE (MARCH HARE), THE PLAQUE GOT TO THE PROTOTYPE STAGE BUT WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO FRUITION, SOME OF THESE PICTURES WERE TAKEN IN 1994 JUST BEFORE FINAL CLOSURE, YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THE TRACKS COVERED IN WEEDS

    Welcome
Hello a a very warm welcome to my third Fotopic site, due to so much feedback and comments from people who visited my main fotopic site (jons-trains) this site is dedicated to March TMD in Cambridgeshire, now sadly gone but was once a very important outpost for diesel traction and of course a Mecca for many enthusiasts, me being one!!
I hope to capture the memories of many enthusiasts and of course the people who worked this very busy fenland depot who did not have time to take photos whilst at work there
The pictures were taken in the 1980's right up to depot closure in 1994 and feature BR Blue and Trainload sector liveries.
I have many pictures to scan and add to the site so pleae bear with me, if you have any pictures or memories you would like to share with me about March TMD or indeed the old Whitemoor Yard please contact me, i will be only to pleased to add your pics with your name credited to the site. Many thanks to the kind individuals/researchers who have contacted me to do this site, i thank you for your support and the idea, so sit back back with a cup of tea and a few hobnobs and go back in time to those days when you could hear that unmistakable sound of a class 31's two tone horn as you walked excitedly up Hundred road to 'cop' March TMD stabling sidings!!

    About Me
i will be 37 this year, i am Married to sarah who i have been with since 1990 and have two boys, one aged 9 (Matthew) and the other 3 (Adam) both like trains!! . i have been into the railway scene since around the age of 8, as my grandfather regaled me with storys of the railways after that i was hooked, he was a driver for BR Eastern region for 50 years and he got me interested in trains, two other members of my family were drivers also so really i was born into railways. I took up serious spotting in the early 80's as a young spotty teenager, i always carried a camera for 'point and shoot' shots. I left the 'scene' in the late 80's to chase women and to pop my 'cherry', i got into classic cars and restored a Ford capri 2.8i and showed it round the country at classsic car shows but i missed the railways and came back into the hobby in 2001, i took up serious railway photography in 2002 and went digital in 2004. I have a large interest in railways modern and old.
I currently work on the railway in preservation and am an active member of the Mid Norfolk Railway working within the operations/shunting dept and also im the Publicity officer (I.T) and working member of the class 56 group, my other interests are Military history since WW2, reading and music as i was a mobile DJ for 4 years!!, i also enjoy a beer or two (maybe 3!!)
